The SLRFU have named their squad for their Caribbean Championship clash with the British Virgin Islands on 26th January at the Corinth Playing Field.

Colvis Samuels, the President of the SLRFU, said that the team will look to rely on its heavy pack of forwards to soften up the opposition before unleashing their fast and elusive back to baffle the opposition and win the match. But this will not be an easy fixture as B.V.I are renowned for their tough and determined style of play, similar to that seen in England in the late 90’s due to their large number of ex-pat players. It will be a great clash of cultures and styles of rugby come Saturday!

The selection also speaks volumes for the Union’s recent expansion throughout St Lucia with the selection of a number of young and skilful players from Laborie and Micoud. This project of development and expansion has been on going for the past 18 months in partnership with Caribbean Coaching. Mr Samuels said that the “team comprises a mix of experienced and new but very talented and determined players many of whom are from the west and east of the island.

If St Lucia win on the 26th they would face Curacao in the next round, fresh from their victory over St Vincent last week.
